Chief Minister of Malaysian State of Perak, Dr Zambry bin Abdul Kadir visited Yunus Centre today to meet and have discussions with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus together with a 46-member delegation. The Chief Minister, who has been a long been interested in introducing social business in his state, and Professor Yunus discussed many issues of mutual interest including how to set up and operationalize social business in Perak State through mutual cooperation.
During the meeting Professor Yunus said we need to build entirely new framework of economic theory to undo the problems created by the existing system. Professor Yunus hoped that Malaysian State of Perak would work to take initiatives to convert some of the charity based programs to social business.
The Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) which is a public policy think tank for the Perak State Government and Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU) which is a not-for-profit organization that works to eradication of poverty in the State of Perak signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yunus Centre to promote social business in Perak.
Chief Minister of Malaysian State of Perak, Dr Zambry bin Abdul Kadir and Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of Yunus Centre, signed MoU for their respective organizations. Both the organizations committed to work on promoting the social business concept as well as its practice as a way to tackle social problems in Malaysian State of Perak. Dr Mazalan Kamis who is currently the CEO of Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) and Hamzarul Hazmir Hamdan CEO of Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU) were present during the MoU signing ceremony.
Chief Minister Dr Zambry also invited Professor Yunus to be chief guest at the Pangkor Dialogue a conference in Ipoh, Perak every year to promote discussion on international development based on sustainability and inclusive growth.
